SISTER SHOTGUN – INTERVIEW

Brit Rockers SISTER SHOTGUN are set to release a new video for the magnificent ‘Silhouettes’. We sat down with the band to talk about their beginnings:

What is the full band lineup, who plays what?

Chloe Ozwell – Lead Vocals, Niall Wills – Rhythm Guitar/Backing vocals, Rob Hayes – Lead Guitar, Tim Chambers- Bass guitar, Dave Harvey – Drums.

How and when did the band form?

Sister Shotgun formed in 2012. The band formed at one of Niall’s house parties where Chloe introduced him to a couple of her musician friends who were looking to start a band. They decided a few days after the party to meet up and start writing together and the rest is history.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

Through the 5 years we’ve been a band we’ve had a few line up changes as we realised certain members weren’t right for the band but with every line up change we’ve gotten stronger and after Dave Joined in early 2017 we’ve been the best we’ve ever been as a band. We’re playing and creating better than ever and everyone really works together and pushes each other.

What are your musical influences?

We have a lot of varied influences as we all come from quite different musical backgrounds but the bands that influence the sound of Sister Shotgun are Bullet For My Valentine, My Chemical Romance, Killswitch Engage, Motley Crue, Van Halen, Steve Vai, In This Moment, Escape The Fate and Avenged Sevenfold.

Where did the name of band come from?

It was taken from the song ‘White Wedding’ by Billy Idol. The line ‘Hey little sister shotgun’ really shook Chloe and she always thought it would be either a great stage name or a band name. So, when she joined the band, she put it forward and everyone agreed on it.

How far back does your history with each other (the band members) extend? are you friends from school or any family relations?

With The current line up, everyone is inter linked somehow. Chloe and Niall met at college in 2012 and were really close friends. Rob is Niall’s dad’s step brother so those two grew up together and Rob is responsible for Niall learning how to play guitar. Chloe and Tim were both on the music performance course together in university and became good friends and Tim and Dave met through mutual friends two years ago and were both wanting to play in a project together so when the band was looking for a new drummer Tim put Dave forward.

Where have you played or toured? Please name all countries / regions and recognised bands that you have played with.

We’ve currently only played in the UK, but we are hoping to change that soon. The cities we’ve played are Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Sheffield, London, Manchester, Bolton, Bournemouth, Leeds and Northampton. We’ve played shows with Kobra and the Lotus, Butcher Babies, Sumo Cyco, The Raven age, William Control, Ashestoangels, Toseland, Diemonds, Skarlett Riot, InME and Devilskin.

In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?

I feel like we’re fusing different elements together. We’re not exactly reinventing the wheel but we’re taking inspiration from a lot of different places, sonically. We’re taking music to a place it hasn’t been in a while, making it melodic with pop elements vocally but also really making the guitars heavy with technical elements to really try and create something different. We’re also quite visual and like to think about how we present ourselves as a band. We like to add drama and a theatrical aspect to what we do.

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?

Melodic and catchy but with an edge of heavy riff driven guitars. I’d just have to learn how to sign that to a deaf person.

Do you have a tour on the horizon?

Not for 2017 but we are jumping on as the opener for Santa Cruz and Skarlett Riot for their Show in Birmingham on December 9th and we are currently setting up UK tours for 2018.
