Summary:

An outstanding performance from The ‘Godfather of Shock Rock’.

alice cooperAlice Cooper has been around for years, yet he never looks any older, and if this performance at Wacken is anything to go by, he will be around for a good many years yet.
This DVD and CD three disc package captures Alice headlining the Wacken Festival in 2013. The DVD only has 22 tracks while the CD’s feature’s the full 24 song festival set, so you’re certainly getting your money’s worth.
Alice not only raids his impressive back catalogue, including a couple of rarer gems, he also throw’s in a couple of cover songs, and you end up with is a great set list, as opposed to just having a predictable set list.
The concert begins with a brilliant entry from Alice before opening up with ‘Hello Hooray’ closely followed by the first rare gem of the night ‘House Of Fire’.
After a couple more Cooper classics we then get ‘I’ll Bite Your Face Off’, the first of two tracks from the ‘Welcome 2 My Nightmare’ album, ‘Caffeine’ being the other, which brings things right up to date.
‘Dirty Diamonds’ gives Alice a chance to take a well-deserved break and for the rest of the band to show what they can do. Bass player, Chuck Garric takes the lead during the instrumental section along with drummer Glen Sobel who plays an impressive solo.
They are then joined by Orianthi, guitar goddess extraordinaire, Ryan Roxie and Tommy Henriksen also on guitar to bring the song to a climactic finish. Alice, though never really evolving himself has always evolved his band, and the current line up is probably his strongest yet.
The 2nd rare gem is ‘He’s Back (The Man Behind The Mask)’ which has been missing from the live set for a good few years now. More Cooper classics follow, ‘The Ballad Of Dwight Fry’, ‘Killer’ and ‘Poison’ all go down a storm with the Wacken crowd.
There are also a couple of covers thrown in for good measure including a rousing version of The Doors ‘Break On Through’. The last song of the night is off course the legendary ‘Schools Out’ which also includes a snippet of ‘Another Brick In The Wall’.
Alice is on top of his game here, his stagecraft and showmanship has never been better, as a live show Alice takes some beating.
I won’t bore you about the sound quality, nor indeed the HD video the concert was shot in, we have all come to expect this level of presentation by default now, however there are some added bonus material on the dvd, including a 20 minute interview with Alice on the tour and more.
