‘Jerusalem” is the 6th and latest full length studio album from the Swedish heavy metal band Astral Doors. “Jerusalem” is the follow up to the bands 2010 release entitled “Requiem of Time”.
Fans of classic metal will definitely want to take a listen to “Jerusalem”. The album is packed full of straight forward metal riffs, pounding bass lines, kick ass drums and vocals that are very reminiscent of the late, and great RJD. However, what sets this album up is the use of Keyboards, not usually found on a metal record, but used to great effect here.
The subject matter is pure metal, Religion, History and War, which dominate’s this album, except for one little sing a long gem, “Child of Rock N’ Roll”. This could have been a Dio song, Nils knows this and sings it like Ronnie would have done, a great tune.
That a side, the rest of the album stacks up well, and it easily their best to date, “The Battle of Jacob’s Ford” with some great keyboard playing conveys the true meaning of what the album cover is trying to depict, marching into battle.
With an epic closing track “Jerusalem” this record is full of surprises, while never quite far from the well trodden metal path, there are a few nice touches on this that make it stand out. 7/10.
Watch the video to Child of Rock N’ Roll below, or don’t, as it is absolute rubbish, don’t bands realize that music videos are an important part of a bands image ?
This video does nothing at all to help the band, still the music’s not bad.
