Norfolk may be that somewhat sleepy county over to the extreme right of the map but there’s nothing sedate about the second album from Bad Touch, Truth Be Told. Stacked with oomph, riddled with self-assurance and oozing vitality, this is an album tailor made for when the good times are flowing.

Stevie Westwood’s vocals are forceful; a mix of tones that conjure up shadows of David Coverdale at his dynamic height, particularly during tracks such as Take Your Time, are more subtle on cuts such as Heartbreaker, Soulshaker which more than smacks of the influences of Lynrd Skynrd. Then there is Outlaw with its nod towards Bon Jovi’s romanticised vision of the old Wild West.

Added to this are the dextrous, nimble riffs knocked out by Rob Glendinning which are underscored magnificently by Daniel “Seeks” Seekings on rhythm guitars. Take a listen to My Mother Told Me and bask in the warmth of a band that’s honed their craft touring the country so that what results is sound that at once recognisable, uplifting and totally original.

The rhythms supplied by bassist Michael Bailey and George Drewry’s drums are pulsating, yet never threaten to overpower proceedings, whilst the team-worked lyrics shine throughout. The debut singles, 99% and Made To Break – both mixed and engineered by Rolling Stones man Chris Kimsey – sums up the band in a nutshell.

They’re fun, they’re intent on having a good time and are determined to share the joy. This doesn’t make them a pastiche, however: tracks such as Take Your Time, The Mountain and Waiting For This shore up their serious side with some delicious, heartfelt delivery and superbly crafted lyrics.

With Halfway Home already released and receiving much praise as the debut album from Bad Touch, Truth Be Told is a refreshing, multi-faceted album that’s guaranteed to leave a smile of satisfaction on your face.
