Beyond Betrayal – Money Can’t Save You Now

Beyond Betrayal have released their November 2011 EP entitled Money Can’t Save You Now entirely for free via band camp and from the moment it kicks in, to the ending note, it is clear that this is one of the best hardcore albums to come from the UK in the past five years. Through groove infectious beat downs, driving rhythm sections and vocal lines that would put the likes of Parkway Drive, The Devil Wears Prada and The Ghost Inside to shame. A band that will make it far in life because of how their music sounds over the way they look, Beyond Betrayal are five extremely talented musicians who all put their heart, soul and individual shine into each track on Money Can’t Save You Now, making it an album you will have on repeat for years to come!

The guitar beat downs are a huge part of this album. Slowing down and changing tempo to this driving album at points you would not expect, adding a daunting, atmospheric and colossus effect to tracks such as ‘Scott’s Got A Time Machine (He Told Me Tomorrow)’ and ‘What Lies Inside’. It adds real change and balls to this rather aggressive record, completely ruling out the typical hardcore band stereotype and showing that modern metal bands can rock as hard and be as heavy as the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Carcass and Obituary. If you wouldn’t class this as a metal album then there is clearly something wrong with you.

Every song on Money Can’t Save You Now is memorable and catchy. Most hardcore bands on the scene at the moment try to go for a big and brash approach to their songs, trying to get them to go all out aggressive and forget to add something that really sets them apart from other hardcore bands. Beyond Betrayal on the other hand have a spark in their music, especially in songs such as ‘November’ and ‘Tear Me Apart’, balancing aggressiveness and melody to ensure that listeners can recognise the tune of these songs and make it easy for them to follow and sing along with these fist in your face hardcore anthems.

The production is so tight and clean cut making these Barrow-in-Furness bruisers sound like they are on Epitaph or Sony records. Everything is emphasised by ten, giving Money Can’t Save You Now the wow factor. The sound is massive, the heavy beat downs aggressive and the vocals even more powerful. Beyond Betrayal have hit the ground running with this EP, the fact they have had it recorded and mastered so professionally puts them in good stead for their long and hopefully prosperous future.

We can be expecting another EP very soon from Beyond Betrayal which has been recorded at the wonderful White Bear Studios and one thing is for sure… If it is anything like Money Can’t Save You Now it is going to be freaking mind-blowing! [9/10]
