Big Boy Bloater and the limits – 100 club, London – 15th May 2016

Big Boy Bloater

Tonight’s show was at the 100 club – a basement venue on Oxford Street that over the years has hosted gigs by plenty of big names.  I was looking forward to tonight’s show as the new album (Luxury hobo) from Big Boy Bloater is absolutely superb, so I was hoping that he’d be as good live as on the album.

The set kicked off with a string of songs from Luxury Hobo including “I love you (but I can’t stand your friends)”, “Robot girlfriend” and “It came out of the swamp.”  I counted six or seven songs from the new album, and every one of them sounded great live, but the stomping rhythm of “It came out of the swamp” makes it my favourite by far on the album and live (and the video for it is superb too).  A string on his guitar broke so for one song we had keyboards, bass and vocals while he sang and replaced the string at the same time.
We then got a selection of songs from earlier albums which sounded good enough that I regretted not having enough cash to buy them from the merch stand so instead made a mental note to buy them at a later date.
To end the show Big Boy Bloater returned to Luxury hobo and chose “Not cool man” and the great “Devils not angels” to bring the show to an end.

An excellent show from Big Boy Bloater.
