De Staat – New Album “O” Out On 22nd April

De STAAT are pleased to announce the release of new studio album “O” on 22nd April 2016, via Caroline.

In “O”, the Dutch 5 piece DE STAAT present a unique musical soundscape – eclectic, energetic, irreverent alternative rock with added melody. Debut single and album opener “Peptalk” is the perfect introduction to their left of centre pop sensibilities backed with a heavy beat and a video that has to be seen. The album veers from the dark heavy groove of “Murder Death” to the Zappa-esque “Life Is A Game (Ladadi Ladadada)”, from the wonderful synth heavy pop of “Systematic Lover” to big band groove of “Make The Call, Leave It All”, from the fairground waltz of “Baby” to the gentle acoustic album closer “She’s With Me”. “O” is an album that twists and turns and constantly surprises.

Not only does the album title represent the sound “Oh”, but also symbolises a circular movement. Frontman Florim says: “That circle is resembled in every aspect of the album. We recorded the songs in a circular set up, here in our studio. “O” stands for nothing, yet for everything at the same time – and for infinity. Our new songs are repetitive, you could say they can go on forever.”

DE STAAT made their debut in 2009 with Wait for Evolution and in no time they played festivals such as Glastonbury, City to City, The Great Escape, SXSW, CMJ, Iceland Airwaves, Sziget and Lowlands. Wait for Evolution has won several awards. The second album Machinery appeared in 2011, and in both 2011 and in 2012 the band received the 3FM Award for Best Alternative Act, an award by the most important national alternative radio station.

The band received a lot of attention for the stunning video for the track “Witch Doctor” from their last album. The track has been viewed 1.5 million times with the UK in the Top 5 of the views.

DE STAAT will support the release of “O” with a full European tour in February/March 2016. The band will play a sold-out show in London @ The Barfly on Thursday 17th March.
