Dead Daisies, Colour of Noise, Wild Lies – Rescue Rooms Nottingham, 6/12/15.

Wild Lies

For those unfamiliar to Nottingham’s Rescue Rooms I should point out that the venue is a smaller scale Rock City. On a Sunday school night the crowd for the opening band Wild Lies was quite small.  Unaffected by the lack of audience, the London rockers tried their very best to bait the crowd, performing their latest single Asteroid Central with copious amounts of energy. Alas their efforts fell against stony gazes and they ended their half an hour slot with Can’t Carry On.
Next up, Colour of Noise seemed set to suffer the same fate when lo and behold, in the blink of an eye the tiny Rescue Rooms was full to bursting.  C.O.N (great acronym!) performed their brand of blues edged with a classic rock and roll swagger to a packed, hungry crowd. Pulling songs from their debut self titled album, tracks Head On, Rock Bottom and You Only Call Me When You Want Something showcased the bands dedication to great down and dirty style tracks.

Colour of Noise

Straining under the volume of fans flowing in to catch a glimpse of the headliner The Dead Daisies it’s a wonder the bigger venue hasn’t been used. Formed from a stellar line up boasting members of Motley Crue, Thin Lizzy and Guns n Roses there’s no surprise the band can pull off an exemplary performance, fine tuned from experience at the hands of some of the biggest band names on the face of the globe.
The night’s set list opens with the seductively sweet track Midnight Moses, taken from the new album, Revolucion. Led by the gravelly voiced, god-like John Corabi on vocal, the Daisies have the crowd exactly where they want them from the get go. The set content, although predictably pulled from the new album, hid a few surprises in the form of sneaky covers. Their cover of Hush by Deep Purple slid in beautifully as did versions of Alright Now by Free and Sick as a Dog by Aerosmith.

The Dead Daisies

No self respecting gig is ever complete without a solo, and tonight’s offering came in the form of Brian Tichy banging the crap out of the drums with his bare hands, now that’s skill.  After the show I asked if it had hurt and he very coolly replied “No, I am a drumming ninja.”  The age-old tradition of an encore was honoured in the form of Face I Love and a cover of Fortunate Son before an announcement was made that the first fifty people to get in a queue could have a signing. A mass scramble ensued, one which I am happy to report I was in on. All the band members were present to sign photos, books, CD’s and chat to fans, which was awesome to witness. What a nice genuine band!
