If you're a fan or Punk or Psychbilly then I'd definitely recommend giving Dick Venom a listen - and if you're not then it's still worth a listen as this is music that crosses genre boundaries to appeal to a wide range of people.

Dick Venom and the Terrortones - The Monsterpussy sessionsHmmm, how to describe Dick Venom & The Terrortones?   Well one description might be Psychobilly.  In case you haven’t come across Psychobilly before, it’s best described as a blend of Rockabilly and Punk rock. Throw in a healthy dose of Horror movies or B movies and that gives a rough idea of what to expect, but really the only way to understand just what the band are like is to either listen to them or ideally to go and see them in concert.

The Nottingham based band are releasing their new EP, The Monsterpussy sessions, on 4th July, and it will be available to download for free or to buy on cassette – check out http://terrortones.bandcamp.com for details.

This has to be the most attention getting press pack I’ve seen for some time – along with a CD to listen to and review the EP, there was a condom and a tampon (both with Dick Venom stickers on them), and a mini lipstick labelled as a “Dickstick”.  Given that thenI’m sure plenty of reviewers will be curious enough to listen to EP and review it, but once someone listens to the EP then the gimmicks become irrelevant as the music speaks for itself.  Personally I was pleased to hear a new release from the band as I loved their “Rockin Rollin Vampire Man” EP a few years ago.

There’s something particularly addictive about the music that lifts it well above the ordinary punk, rockabilly or psychobilly.  The music is catchy as well as heavy and punchy and the horror/smut/B movie lyrics are a perfect fit.

If you’re a fan or Punk or Psychbilly then I’d definitely recommend giving Dick Venom a listen – and if you’re not then it’s still worth a listen as this is music that crosses genre boundaries to appeal to a wide range of people.
