Summary:

I'm looking forward to hearing the band perform these songs live at Metal Female Voices Fest in Belgium in October.

Enemy of reality - Rejected godsGreek Symphonic metal band Enemy of reality have released their debut album – Rejected Gods.  The band features former Meden Agan singer Iliana Tsakiraki.  The album features guest appearances from Mike LePond (Symphony X), Androniki Skoula (Chaostar), Maxi Nil (Jaded Star, ex-Visions of Atlantis) and Ailyn Gimenez (Sirenia).

Brief comments on a few tracks….

The album opens with “Medusa”, an intro track composed by Christos Antoniou (Septicflesh & Chaostar).  It’s a lovely track – not quite instrumental as there are some vocals but these are more “wailing” than singing as there are no lyrics.  It’s got a dark feel to it and is a great piece of music.

“My own master” is the first proper song, and it opens with some nice fast drumming and a good powerful guitar sound.  The combination of that solid metal sound combines nicely with Iliana’s lovely vocals – she sings for part of the time in a conventional style before switching to the more operatic style and really unleashing the power in her voice.

“Needle bites” features Sirenia singer Ailyn Giminez providing guest vocals alongside Iliana.  The combination of the two singers works really well with Ailyn providing some lovely vocals and Iliana adding her powerful operatic vocals alongside.

“The bargaining” sees Iliana’s pure operatic vocals being paired with some growling male vocals – it’s a real contrast and works very well.

“Torn apart” is the first song that was released from the album – check out the video and hear for yourself what it’s like.

“Step into the light” features piano rather than the usual guitar and clean singing vocals from Maxi Nil who has a great voice and really does a great job with this song. There are some operatic vocals too, but only in a small part of the song.A lovely song to end the album with.

This is definitely an album that fans of symphonic metal with female operatic vocals are going to love – Iliana has an excellent voice, and the music is very good.  I’m looking forward to hearing the band perform these songs live at Metal Female Voices Fest in Belgium in October.
