“Rebirth” is now out worldwide on iTunes, Amazon and Google Play, and it is the band’s first release in four years. Their previous single “Shizuku” was featured as the first song in the “J-Rock” category of Harmonix’s Rock Band 3 for Xbox360.

The band reformed six months ago after a three year hiatus, leaving guitarist Kai to take on the role of the vocalist. “It is my first time singing in a band. I have always been able to sing, but I just wanted to be known as a guitarist—now, I really enjoy singing. I just hope that my voice will give the band a fresh new sound that people can enjoy“, said Kai.

The space metal trio will be celebrating the release of “Rebirth” with a two-date mini tour, performing at Le Trianon, Paris on 17 December, and at Zigfrid von Underbelly, London on 18 December. Limited tickets with free Rebirth posters have already been sold out, with only general admission tickets left for their London show.

Simon Williams of Fierce Panda Records (Coldplay, Death Cab For Cutie, Placebo, The Blackout) describe the band as “lovingly made, ferociously loud J-Rock-flavoured space metal with punishingly thrashy outbursts and broody progressive breakdowns. Kai really is the axeman with the plan, reeling around the stage and riffing all over the world.”

“They’re producing tracks that excite us much more than any recent visual kei or J-Rock from Japan.” Tom Smith, JPU Records (The GazettE, BAND-MAID, Crystal Lake)

“A massive blast of metal noise that you can’t help but bang your head along to. An awesome statement of intent for the band’s return.” – Gig Radar

Earlier this year, Esprit D’Air headlined at a charity concert organised by Peko Peko in aid for the five year anniversary of the Tohoku earthquake—raising £1,100 for English and music lessons at Aoba Gakuen, an orphanage in Fukushima. The band have also performed at the main stage of the UK’s biggest Japanese culture festival, HYPER JAPAN in London earlier this year.

About Louise Swift

I first went to a gig in 1981, Gillan at Leeds University. I've been a regular gig goer ever since. I haven't kept count of how many gigs I've been to over the intervening years, but it's a lot! My favourite bands are AC/DC then, in no particular order, Anti-Nowhere League, Slaughter and the Dogs, Towers of London and Dirt Box Disco. I tend to like Glam/Punk and rude offensive lyrics, not sure what that says about me but as Animal would say 'So What!' The question was recently put to me - did I write for any online publications? My reply - No, but I'd like to! Planetmosh was suggested and I found myself offering to review Aces High Festival. Easy peasy I thought! Well not quite, if a jobs worth doing it's worth doing well! I had sixteen bands to research. I found I actually enjoyed that and it kept me too busy to be making lunatic comments on Facebook! ;) Then I felt a bit inadequately qualified. I mean, who am I to comment on others, when my musical expertise extends to being able to play a mean Greensleeves on the recorder and a passable Annie's song on the flute! Haven't picked up either instrument for years! What I do have, however, is over 30 years of experience as a gig goer, so I can comment on what I like and what I don't! It's only my opinion and, if I don't like a band it doesn't mean they are bad, just not to my own liking. I admire anyone who has the guts to get up on that stage and have a go!
