Summary:

If you havent heard The Fright before then you really need to give them a listen and this album is an excellent place to start.

The Fright have a sound that conjures up memories of Sisters of Mercy, The Mission, 69 eyes and Fields of the Nephilim but at the same time has a more mainstream rock feel to it with strong catchy songs with choruses people can sing along to. It’s a tricky balancing act to appeal to the mainstream rock fans and the goth fans without straying too far one way or another but The Fright manage it perfectly.

The album kicks off with “Bonfire night”. Check it out here…

At times the vocals really do remind me of Andrew Eldritch with a real Sisters of Mercy feel, but then you get the big chorus kicking in and it’s more of a traditional rock sound.

“In sicherheit” is a cover version – the first time the band have done a cover, and the original is by German punk legend Fliehende Sturme. They’ve gone a step further by getting Fliehende Sturme founder and singer, Andreas Lohr to guest on their version. It’s also the first time that The Fright have done a German language song.

It’s a great album. If you havent heard The Fright before then you really need to give them a listen and this album is an excellent place to start.

“Canto V” is out now.
