From Ruin, pre-Bloodstock festival interview

From Ruin are set to ravage the New Blood Stage on Sunday 12th at this year’s Bloodstock.

We catch up with the guys to find out more about them, what there are about, the festival and what you lucky Bloodstock go-er’s will see!

Can you introduce yourself?

We are From Ruin, a 5 piece, female fronted metal band that incorporates thrash and power metal, with melodic and progressive elements that can’t really be tied down to a specific sub-genre.

Introducing the band, Anita Griffin is our vocalist, Jonny Randall and Pete Holman are our guitarists. Craig Daws and Jon Rudin hold down the rhythm section as bass player and drummer respectively.

The band formed in 2009 in Warminster, Wilts, with Jonny, Pete and Jon being the founding members. Anita joined soon after bringing her unique vocal style, which has really forged the sound of the band.  I (Craig) have been involved with the band since recording their 2010 demo and subsequently managing them. I was lucky enough to be asked to play bass for them full time in June while recording the debut album.

Have you ever been to Bloodstock before? If so when and what did you enjoy most about it?

I played Bloodstock in 2009 with my previous band Ventflow. The main thing I enjoyed other than playing in front of an amazing crowd was the overall atmosphere. Everyone is there for the same reason, to enjoy all the amazing metal bands on offer. There is a real sense of community at Bloodstock that you don’t get at other festivals.

Why did you want to become part of the New Blood Stage line up?

Metal 2 The Masses and the New Blood stage is an amazing opportunity for hard working, lesser known bands to get the exposure they deserve. It’s a chance to play a killer festival in front of thousands of dedicated metal heads. What band wouldn’t want to be a part of it?!

What was your initial reaction when you found out you were playing on the New Blood Stage?

I’m pretty sure we jumped around like idiots cheering haha!

What is your opinion of the Bloodstock lineup?

I think this years line up is the best yet; Testament, say no more.

What are you looking forward to most at Bloodstock?

Everyone’s reaction to our sets on the Jager and New Blood stage, and then where this awesome opportunity will take us.

What can the audience expect from you at the festival?

On the New Blood stage you can expect a fast paced, energetic set with soulful vocals and thrashy, intricate riffs. On the New Blood stage, expect the unexpected, and maybe a singalong or two!

Can you sum up Bloodstock in one sentence?

In one sentence? It only needs one word: METAL
