Summary:

Igniting the rock is not dead scene with their brand of NWOBHM - Hell’s Gazelles release their new EP Take Your medicine on 27th July 2018.

It’s been two years since Hell’s Gazelles introduced themselves with their self titled debut EP.  Leaping on to the music scene, the Oxford based quartet have had quite ride so far playing Bloodstock and Hard Rock Hell. Their music has elements of 70’s hard rock, 80’s heavy metal and 90’s nu metal – think bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Korn.  But if you prefer a modern comparison; then they are amongst bands like Ryders Creed, Damn Dice and Massive Wagons, who are also igniting the rock is not dead scene with their brand of NWOBHM.

Be prepared for lots of ‘falsetto’, shrilling ‘laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaass’ and ‘fuck you’s’ as singer Cole Bryant goes on the vocal warpath!   Opening track Give me something gives you all the aforementioned, accompanied with blistering guitars, pounding drums and a rhythmic bass that sets the pace of the EP.  Getting heavier on Stone Cold, the energy increases, as does Cole’s vocal range, hitting even higher notes!!  The riffs on Out of time remind me of Budgie -‘Breadfan’ intermingled with Limp Bizkit  – ‘Break Stuff’.  Lead track Take your medicine, is probably the most NWOBHM sounding, with an anthemic backing chorus of ‘take your medicine’ adding weight to the number.

Saving the best until last She Devil has to be the standout track. Hell’s Gazelles command their blend of heavy rock, sumptuously with a melodic 70’s funky vibe that doesn’t go overboard with the ‘whoas and ahhhhhhhhs ’, and is reminiscent to Jimi Hendrix – Foxy Lady in places.  If Hell’s Gazelles get around to making an album, they have some great songs under their belt to draw influence from.  Certainly a band to keep your eye on!
