Summary:

All You Need Is Soul is an eclectic mix of good old rock and roll with its catchy blues influence, which also bestows a modern classic rock sound! Bursting with vibrancy, Jizzy Pearl hasn’t lost any of his joie de vivre since his Love/Hate days!

If you’re not familiar with the name Jizzy Pearl, he was and still is the notable vocalist of Love/Hate. Whose band found success in 1990 with their album Blackout in the Red Room, and the hit single off the album Why Do You Think They Call It Dope? got them the attention they had strived for almost a decade. Soon becoming the new kids on the LA rock scene; and with comparisons been made for them to become next Guns n Roses and or Motley Crue. But as with any comparison, that only goes so far.  After recording Wasted in America, the band was dropped by their label in 1992. With an on/off band relationship they still released six albums in total before departing ways in 1999.

Not one to be sat on his arse like some antique of the ‘heydays’, Pearl’s other ventures included working with Steven Adler in 2005 (ex Guns n Roses Drummer), in Adlers Appetite and singing for LA Guns, Ratt and more recently Quiet Riot in 2014.  But producing and touring his own material was where it was at for Jizzy.  Touring under the name Jizzy Pearl’s Love/Hate he took the popular songs of Love/Hate and his own material on the road.  Racking up three previous album releases,  All You Need Is Soul is the fourth album under the Jizzy Pearl name.

All You Need Is Soul is an eclectic mix of good old rock and roll with its catchy blues influence, which also bestows a modern classic rock sound! Bursting with vibrancy, Jizzy hasn’t lost any of his joie de vivre.  Joined by former Love/Hate guitarist Darren Housholder, drummer Dave Moreno (Puddle of Mudd), and bassist Mark Dutton for the studio album, the band delivers a strong, steady and energetic accompaniment to the album.

Shrieking out the words and title of the opening track You’re gonna miss me when I’m gone makes you jump, as the words boom on their own before being joined by the song, the sound is hard, heavy and full of great guitar solos. Set this one as your morning alarm ringtone and the intro will definitely make you jump out of bed!  Jumping from heavy rock to a blues rocking jam  Comin’ Home to the Bone, delivers the pace and style oozing old skool rhythm n blues.  Jizzy and co have a knack of changing music style whilst still retaining an album sound that isn’t all over the place. Tracks All You Need is Soul and Mortified are evocative of the ‘Blackout’ era –  vocally Jizzy taps into the soul of Love/Hate’s  attitude, that the diehard fans will appreciate.

Taking up the tempo and volume on Frustrated, the riffage and chorus will have you headbanging along. Taking a sultry grungy southern turn on When the devil comes,  Jizzy’s growly vocals suit the vibe, just  like syrup they are smooth and sticky in all the right places. With a slight Led Zep’ met Alice in Chains vibe,  the slow bass and  rhythmic beat, along with the  baby, baby, baby, baby…. and c’mon lyrics deliver one fine tune right there!

Closing the album but not the chapter Mr Jimmy  has something to say on this high octane number. Thumping from start to finish it leaves you with the feeling of wanting more of the musical high that has already got you hooked in!
