Kataleptic, pre-Bloodstock festival interview

Kataleptic are set to krush the New Blood Stage on Friday 10th at this years Bloodstock.

We catch up with the guys to find out more about them, what their are about the festival and what you lucky Bloodstock go-er’s can expect!

If you can give the readers a quick  introduction to the band?

Hi we are Kataleptic a five piece Death Metal band from Birmingham. Our members include; Sean Brown (Bass), Dan Benton (Guitar), Scott Benton (Drums), Luke Davis (Guitar) and Matt Walton (Vocals – Currently conducting this interview). Some of our influences and favourite bands are: Decaptiated, Gojira, Bloodbath, Morbid Angel, Nile, Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, and Necrophagist just to name a few.

We started Kataleptic in 2008, from the ashes of two other bands that were breaking up at that time. We wanted to create something a lot heavier than what we had been previously doing and this seemed to be the perfect opportunity. Kataleptic was formed in about 10 minutes from a table in Scruffy Murphys pub, we sort of just saw the people in there we knew might want to be in a band (and knew they could play!) and just asked them, before we knew it we were at our first practice and now 4 years later we are playing at Bloodstock!

Have you ever been to Bloodstock before? If so when and what did you enjoy most about it?

I think at least one or two of our members have been going to Bloodstock every year since 2007, what we most enjoy about the festival is; ITS BRITAINS BIGGEST ALL METAL FESTIVAL! Need I say more? What more could you need?

Why did you want to become part of the New Blood Stage line up?

There has been a long succession of bands from Birmingham that have represented our cities metal scene on the New Blood Stage over the years, and we have now been given the chance to carry the flag, so to speak, this year. But mostly, we want to party and make some new friends!

What was your initial reaction when you found out you where playing on the New Blood Stage?

I ran on stage, threw my arms in the air and shouted: YYYYEEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

What is your opinion of the Bloodstock lineup?

Pretty damn good! I think that there is defiantly something for everyone across all the stages, and the brilliance of the New Blood stage is that you can go and hear something you might not have ever heard from somewhere you may never have gone.

What are you looking forward to most at Bloodstock?

Behemoth, Benediction, Watain, Mayhem, Annal Nathrak, Dimmu Borgir, Nile, The Black Dahlia Murder, Bloodshot Dawn, Orange Goblin… erm… can I say pretty much all the bands? I’m also really looking forward to seeing as many of the New Blood acts as possible, smoking some shisha, getting drunk and taking advantage of the VIP toilets!

What can the audience expect from you at the festival?

Off stage, a bunch of thoroughly nice chaps… on stage a musical punch in the face! Prepare for an epic ‘bangover’ this will be neck ache that no amount of deep heat will cure.

Can you sum up Bloodstock in one sentence?

Pure fucking metal… in a field!

Any message you wish to pass on to the PM readers?

Keep going to your local shows, supporting your local bands and keep an open mind to the unsigned acts that come to visit your town. We are all in this together! ..Oh and SEE YOU AT BLOODSTOCK!!!!!
