Led Zeppelin are one of those bands that really truly deserve the tag “Legendary”. Even though they had a relatively short active career they made an impact of gargantuan proportions on music and the business that surrounded it. On 10 December 2007 they reunited publicly for the 3^rd time since 1980 for the Ahmet ErtegunTribute concert . It appears this was just a one of and for that I am glad; as I would hate to see damage done to their great legacy in the way that Sabbath has stained theirs. The gig itself is very well shot and has smooth camera work and is not too frantic, it moved between normal cameras with some sparingly used grainy footage to give the feel of the view from the crowd. The set opened with “Good Times, Bad Times” and went straight into “Ramble On”, the band seemed nervous and under rehearsed and I was starting to worry this may be a disaster. It wasn’t until 5^th track in “For your Life” (a track that Plant introduced as being never performed live before) that the band came to life. Jason Bonham settled into his groove and relented from overplaying songs or trying to put his own take onto the tracks; which I think was part of the problem during the openers. The song choices were inspired and along with the hits – “Whole Lotta Love”, “Stairway To Heaven”, “Dazed and Confused”, we were treated to more obscure ones like, “Nobody’s Fault But Mine”, ”Misty Mountain Hop” and “In My Time of Dying”. They kept the showboating and jamming to a minimum and showed that sometimes even the legends can sometimes be of their game in places. It was great to see the still obvious chemistry between Jones, Plant and Page and the encouraging glances to John Bonham’s son behind the kit. The DVD/LP/CD is not out until November, but if this is in your local cinema, grab a bucket of popcorn, go along, sit back and experience one of the greatest bands of all time live and large.
