Summary:

All this zombie can say is, this is not an album to listen to quietly, it needs to be turned up as loud as your puny mortal speakers can go.

Lordi

The sun, it’s turned black! The moon, it’s blood red! And the dead have risen and are walking the face of the Earth. Sorry to disappoint you folks but it’s not the apocalypse, it’s the aporockalypse and who is that leading the way? None other than the Finnish supermonsters Lordi with their new album Monstereophonic: Theaterror vs. Demonarchy. The reason for the lengthy title of the album is that these horrific characters decided to split the album into two sections, Theaterror and Demonarchy and yours truly from PlanetMosh got the chance to hear the differences between the two sides of the 2006 Eurovision winners beastly, split personality.

It’s not too often an album starts off with the words “Let’s Go Slaughter He-Man” but that’s what the Theaterror side of the album starts off with; a song that features a mixture of poppy keyboard sounds and lyrics about slaughtering our favourite 80’s cartoon character. From pure cheesiness to pure hard rock, lead vocalist Mr. Lordi and his creatures of the night continue to bring the balls to rock with songs like “Hug You Hardcore” and “Sick Flick;” both of which are full of thunderous guitar riffs and stabbing choruses.

The last half of the album, Demonarchy, is more of a concept that tells the story of The Undead Son, The Bloodsucking Count, The She-Wolf and The Witch. This side of the album had a much darker sound to it, moving from balls to the wall rock to a more Earth pounding metal style. The band are more experimental on this side of the album, from plenty of choral vocal harmonies and loads of guitar riffs from lead guitarist Amen. Tracks like “Break Of Dawn” and “And The Zombie Says” are the two highlights of this side of the album as they featured all of these elements, including some sensational drum work from Mana. The theatrical “The Night The Monsters Died” brings this sensational piece of work to an epic close.

So which side of this album will be your favourite? Will you attend the Theaterror or join the Demonarchy? All this zombie can say is, this is not an album to listen to quietly, it needs to be turned up as loud as your puny mortal speakers can go; so loud that even the afterlife can hear it!

Monstereophonic: Theaterror vs. Demonarchy is set to be released via AFM Records on the 16th September (Europe) and on the 30th September (U.S.)
