Mayhem Underground, Pivo Pivo, Glasgow 6/10/11

Mayhem Underground is a new weekly metal night set in the centre of Glasgow.

Every Thursday they’ll hold a metal night in Pivo Pivo, where 3 of Glasgow’s upcoming metal bands take to the stage. This is followed by a metal DJ with chances to win prizes and each ticket includes FREE ENTRY to the rock club The Cathouse! Ticket price is just £6 so definitely a bargain!

Mayhem Underground aims are simple they are looking to help promote local talent by creating a vibrant new metal scene, that is fair to bands, promoters and venues and create a unity using their common interest for metal music and of course for everyone to have a rocking night \m/

They have started an online Forum where bands can advertise gigs slots, recruit band members and even sell used equipment at www.mayhemunderground.com

I went along to the opening night where the entertainment was provided by MC Grant Gallacher, DJ Carla aka Crazy Bitch from Total Biker FM along with Witness the Fall, Final Silence and headliners Scarcinogen.

When we arrived there was a good sized crowd already there taking advantage of the great drink promotions that were on offer in Pivo.

MC Grant took to the stage and welcomed us all and introduced the bands and cracked a few jokes.

Witness the Fall took to the stage and started off the night in fine style. They provided a powerful tight set that had the folk down the front headbanging along.

Up next was Final Silence. Their set was superb, especially their cover of ‘CottonEyed Joe’ I’ve never heard that song sounding so good, it went down a treat with the crowd.

MC Grant took to the stage in between bands cracking jokes and bantering with the audience to keep us entertained while the bands did the change over on stage.

Scarcinogen had the crowd moving and head banging from the start of their set. They played superbly as always.

All three bands played great, tight sets and sounded fantastic. Definitely a great start to the opening night.

Once the bands had finished, DJ Carla played a fantastic selection of tunes including some local bands as well as old and new favourites.

There was a stunning Air Guitar competition where top prize was a bottle of Jägermeister. While all the participants did their best Air Guitar rock moves & poses to tracks like ‘Thunderstruck’ by AC/DC while they got voted off one by one until the best guitarist won. It was a great end to the night.

I’m looking forward to next week’s night on 13th Oct with music from Shapeshift, Lets Play God, Bekon.

Check out the event section on their FB page to find out what bands are playing each week. Full listings up to the 8th Dec are on there at the moment.
