What do you get when you combine Thrash metal with Battle metal and sprinkle in a hint of darkness?

You get Battle Thrash!

Setting up camp and raising a flag in this genre is Nemesis: Children of the Fey with their new album Against all odds.  It was entirely recorded in the lead singer’s bedroom by both core members of the band, using reaper, a host of free plug-ins and a large amount of ingenuity in building a makeshift studio, with this in mind the album does not disappoint.

The album opens with the 10 second intro Born Of Rage, then straight into the first musical track on the album Witchlore – a good track, but unfortunately it doesn’t particularly stand out, and it’s not until track five, The Frozen Tower that the album really kicks in and the Battle Thrash starts to flow the pace picks up with The Time for Lies and doesn’t let up until the final track Freedom and Wrath .

I feel the tracks Feyrie and Of Ice and Snow do excel and stand out as the better songs on the album with both Master and Hidden Truths almost reaching the same peaks of excellence, you can see this band going from strength to strength.

Throughout the album you get the feeling something special is about to happen, but it doesn’t, which is a shame as the vocals shine through and the guitar work is spot on.

Hopefully in future releases you will see this band capitalize on the highlights of this album and go on to produce more tracks in the vein of Master, Of Ice and Snow and The Time for Lies
