Orestea – Interview

ORESTA chat about their background and talk about their new album ‘Element’s, out 22nd September.

What is the full band line-up, who plays what?
Lisa Avon – Vocals,
Lloyd Wilson – Guitar,
Mike Quinn – Bass.

And following the completion of the new album the band has welcomed Johno Madgwick as their second Guitarist.

How and when did the band form?

Lisa and Lloyd met during school in Tunbridge Wells and played in various bands together from the age of 14. They met Mike and Johno during their first year of college in Guildford.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

The band has been touring and releasing music for a number of years together, which really helped establish the bands reputation as a solid live unit. More recently, they decided to take time out to record, produce and engineer their next release themselves. This gave them a unique opportunity to really explore their sound and song writing techniques, however it is the bond of friendship between the members that really gels the band together to create a unified force.

What are your musical influences?

Orestea take their influences from a broad range of music, anywhere from Bruno Mars through to Periphery! Between us as individuals our vastly varied musical tastes has proven to be an advantage in working towards crafting our own sound and also in adapting the way we approach our live shows. We are constantly looking to bands and artists that we see performing for ways to improve our live set up and have made a number of kit upgrades and changes during our time together. This has helped us to create a live sound that we are proud of.

Where did the name of band come from?

The band name came out of necessity. Initially the band formed as part of a project at college and so they had to come up with a name. After a long list of crossed out attempts Lisa found a programme for a theatre adaptation of the Greek trilogy ‘’The Oresteia” which inspired the name.

Where have you played or toured? Please name all countries / regions and recognised bands that you have played with.

Orestea have played a number of UK tours as both headliners and supporting acts. They also did a run of shows which included Europe. They have also played at a number of UK festivals including Download Festival, Bloodstock Festival and Guilfest. The band has toured with bands such as Ashestoangels, Forever Never and ESO and were also invited to support Wednesday 13.

In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?

With the band taking their influences from such a range of other artists, it is unsurprising that the result is a unique blend of pop melodies, punk energy and rock instrumentals.

Do you have a tour on the horizon?

Watch this space. We have a show planned in London on August 25th at Surya with our friends in Seasons.
