PERCEPTION will deliver their new single video ‘Monolith’ on the 19th May. Before then, we go to know the band:

WHAT IS THE FULL BAND LINEUP?

Ben Clark – Vocalist

Al Harper – Vocals/Bass

Paddy Kildonan – Guitar

Will Marshall – Drums

HOW AND WHEN DID THE BAND FORM?

We originally formed in early 2012 between Paddy and Will as an excuse to play music together that was more interesting than the stuff we’d been playing before. Our hometown is where the King Alfred the Great was born, but it’s gone downhill since then. We do have dominos now though.

WHEN AND HOW DID THE BAND REALLY START GELLING AND SOLIDIFYING?

The band started gelling and becoming what it is today around July 2015 after we had a drastic line up change (new vocalist and the second guitar player left) which forced us to re-think the music we played and how we performed it. We’re now a much more coherent force as a band and we have a much more defined musical direction.

WHAT ARE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?

Architects, Monuments, Underoath.

WHAT IS THE FAVOURITE OR MOST FUNNY, WILDEST MOMENT OR STORY AS A BAND?

Opening for While She Sleeps and Create to Inspire at a 250 capacity venue in our hometown Oxford. That was so surreal. We also used a technique learned from pirates of the Caribbean to escape from a car park.

WHERE HAVE YOU PLAYED AND WHO HAVE YOU TOURED WITH?

England, Wales and Scotland. While She Sleeps, Feed The Rhino, Carcer City, Continents, Create To Inspire, Holding Absence, Galactic Empire and Sacred Mother Tongue.

IN YOUR OPINION, HOW IS YOUR BAND DIFFERENT FROM ALL OTHER BANDS HOW THERE?

I would say we’re different in that we take great pride in our live shows being energetic and emotional. I find a lot of bands in the heavier end of metalcore tend to neglect movement when they play live and we try to no let that slip.

IF A DEAF PERSON WERE TO ASK YOU TO DESCRIBE THE SOUND OF YOUR MUSIC, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE IT?

Dark, energetic, emotional.
