PEUR – Interview

Highly rated alt-rocker PEUR will reveal their new single, An Exercise in Abstinence, on Friday 13th October. We sat down for a chat to find out more……

What is the full band lineup, who plays what?

Joe Lomax – Vocals and guitars,

Ryan Greenhalgh – Bass and electronics,

Sam Tempest – Drums and percussion.

How and when did the band form?

We all attended primary school together. Forming a band was always something we, rarely discussed however, were subconsciously certain that we would do. It took us roughly 6 years to get it together and actually practice, but when we did it was pretty much guaranteed we’d put everything into it. Maybe being from a culturally devoid and creatively lacking town such as Bolton spurred us on, but I doubt it, we just loved playing music.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

Instantly. From our very first practice we started writing; everything just seemed to work. Obviously we spent years honing our craft, tightening our sound, developing our skills and broadening our horizons musically, but in terms of creative chemistry that was always there from the very beginning.

What are your musical influences?

Mainly, alternative rock bands like Biffy Clyro, Feeder and Muse. But it stretches so much further than that, into metal with Korn and Northlane, post rock with 65daysofstatic and This Will Destroy You, and even pop with the likes of John Mayer. The list is too long to name them all, it’s quite vast.

What is your favourite or most funny, wildest moment or story as a band?

When filming for the ‘This Will Destroy You’ music video, we lit a flare indoors. A fire engine turned up; needless to say it didn’t end well. We did get a great shot from it that made it in to the final video at least.

Where have you played or toured?

All over the UK, Glasgow, London, Leeds, Hull, Liverpool, Bath, we’ve even played Evesham. We have gigged extensively supporting DZ Deathrays, Allusondrugs, Dearly Beloved and Empty Yard Experiment. We also played T in The Park back in 2015. We’ve yet to go overseas but we definitely want to at some point.

In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?

We are trying to make the best product we can, that’s all we care about really, we aren’t trying to follow trends or audience groups, just trying to push ourselves to make it bigger and better. This time that meant; recording with Dan Weller in Chapel Studios, it meant creating electronic interludes we could play on stage, it even meant making our own audio-visual film to go along side our live set. We couldn’t resist.

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?

If John Carpenter directed 2001 Space Odyssey and recorded the soundtrack with John Wick
