The prog-metallers have also just unveiled a stunning new track, Invasion, – https://youtu.be/D4pqtdOoeFo . We sat down with the band for a chat:

What is the full band line-up, who plays what?

Liam Fear (Vocals, Keyboards and Bass), Jack Camp (Drums), Joshua Boniface (Guitar)

How and when did the band form?

We formed around mid-2017 and we’re based in Bath. We had all played with each other in various bands, but we just really wanted to take the shackles off and challenge ourselves, have quite a simple dynamic and see what we could do without limitations.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

The chemistry in this band is great. I honestly think it gelled pretty much straight away. We compliment each other and give each other a lot of freedom to be creative.

Who are your musical influences?

Rush, Opeth, BTBAM, Dream Theater, Revocation, Genesis. Loads more but right now I’d say that gives you an idea.

Where did the name of band come from?

Liam (Vocals, Bass, Keys) being a massive nerd is really into his science and we wanted a name that wouldn’t tie us down to a single genre and Redshift seemed inclusive enough that we could be open to all influences.

How far back does your history with each other (the band members) extend?

We’ve all known each other for around 9 years now. We’re all good friends which makes everything much easier. In fact, we’re probably the only friends we have.

In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?

We’re not scared to mix things up. We listen to stuff like in flames and Revocation to Yes and ELP. We try to push ourselves on a technical level but never want to forget that there’s a song at the heart of everything. We love how bands like Opeth and BTBAM added a real heaviness to the old school progressive approach and we are doing something similar but in our own way. It’s serious music but we’re not afraid for it to be fun which is missing a lot in heavier or progressive music.

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?

Unpredictable, melodic, heavy, theatrical lots of energy and drive. We’ll try to do whatever the song needs within our ability
