RXPTRS – Interview

We caught up with spanking new alternative crew RXPTRS, the South West combo deliver their new single ‘Bound’ on 23rd Feb.

What is the full band line-up, who plays what?

Simon Roach – Vocals, Ian Chadderton – Guitars, Harley David Watson – Guitars, Sam Leworthy – Bass, Mat Capper – Drums.

How and when did the band form?

The band formed at the end of 2017/start of 2018, we all knew each other from previous projects and decided to form RXPTRS together. As it happens we all have different hometowns, and even though we live in Bristol, none of us were born or raised in the area.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

We gelled as a band straight away and didn’t hesitate on getting into the studio. Even though we consider ourselves perfectionists we wanted to take the songs in raw and capture a live sound.

Who are your musical influences?

We each take different elements in to the music. Our favourites, collectively, range from Manchester Orchestra to Every Time I Die, My Chemical Romance to Queens of the Stone Age, Arcane Roots to While She Sleeps. Even though we have a love for contemporary music, we often find ourselves influenced by older generations of rock music.

Where did the name of band come from?  After much heated debate about philosophy, meaning and history, we came to the conclusion that we just wanted a word that would sum up our sound, so we wanted something animalistic and raw, something that binds us as a group, we decided on RXPTRS (pronounced raptors)

In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?

We have surrealistic approach to songwriting, both musically and lyrically. We have a great appreciation of all styles at all levels but take an approach on music that doesn’t land us in any particular genre or trend.

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?

Give them a tequila slammer. We like to blend gritty and sweet, and to keep it potent.

Do you have a tour on the horizon?  We have numerous tours and single shows booked. The first tour kicks off on the 18th February in Glasgow, before we work down the UK.
