Scream Serenity – Interview

UK Rockers SCREAM SERENITY have been making waves for the past few years. The rising rock crew release ‘Eye Of The Storm’ on 1st December, before then we sat down for a talk…….

What is the full band lineup, who plays what?

Jordan Fennell – Guitar/Vocals, Ian Messenger – Guitar/Vocals, James Golder – Bass/Vocals, Jon Lindow – Drums.

How and when did the band form?

The band was completely formed in 2014 after I returned home from University, comprised of members of other local bands whom I had in mind before returning home. We originate from Lowestoft, the most easterly point in England and also the same hometown as The Darkness.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

After changing bass players in 2015, that’s when the band really started to become what it is today, before the member change Ian and I were the only 2 vocalists, having been frontmen of previous bands. But when Paul (our previous bassist) joined us in 2015, he brought with him a 3rd vocal as he was also the front man of his previous band, so we then started to write and adapt music we had to incorporate 3 part harmonies that’s when we really started to find our sound.

What are your musical influences?

They vary between us all personally but on the whole the likes of Alter Bridge, Shinedown, Stone Sour, Theory of a Deadman, Black Stone Cherry helped us create the sound we have as a band.

How far back does your history with each other (the band members) extend?

Well, Ian and James have been friends since childhood so they’ve known each other for 15+ years and were in a previous band together, Ian and I had known about each other for several years through being on the local music scene in different bands, but we never properly met and built a rapport until about 2012 when we started to write together for the band. And Jon we met in 2014 through my old guitar tutor, who I called one day to see if he knew any drummers looking for bands that had gone through his recording studio and he passed Jon our way!

Where have you played or toured? Please name all countries / regions and
recognised bands that you have played with.

We’ve played in and around the UK and we’ve played with the likes of FM, Toseland, Wolfsbane, Carl Palmer’s ELP at various shows and festivals.

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how
would you describe it?

There’s something in there for everyone – melody, big heavy guitar riffs, choir like vocal harmonies all wrapped in songs that have lyrics that tell a story or portray a message.
