The distorted Waltz – The distorted waltz

the distorted waltz - the distorted waltzThe Distorted Waltz started out as a project when the members were at school.  It split before reforming a few years later and in 2011 started recording their debut album.  Due to studies the album wasnt recorded in one go, but was written and recorded over the course of the year.

There are a few bands at the moment who are taking a 70’s sound and giving it a modern spin – Rival Sons being a great example of this, and The Distorted Waltz have a similar sound.  The sound is a very 70’s influenced one with hints of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, but not feeling dated at all.  The album is really impressive with some great vocals and guitar.

Brief comments on a few tracks..

The album kicks off with ‘Poems’.  It’s a great song with some really good lyrics.  Musically it’s very good with a slight hint of ‘Crowded House’ added to the basic rock sound.

‘Burn’ has a definite early Black Sabbath feel to the vocals. It’s one of the heavier tracks on the album and is another great track.

‘Picking Neptune’s pocket’ is an instrumental.  It’s quite a long track for an instrumental, clocking in at six minutes long .  The guitar work is excellent, and the unearthly sound of the Theremin adds eerie howls to it to really add something unusual to the sound and add interest.

It’s a great album that deserves to sell a shitload of copies – it’s an album for fans of 70’s bands including Black Sabbath as well as more modern bands such as Rival Sons.

‘The distorted waltz’ is out now.
