Summary:

I have to say they are increasingly floating my ever 'graying' boat, and seem to have mastered the art of actually making my speakers bleed!!

The Driftwood Sign

Maybe it’s just my age, or because I’m going deaf? Or perhaps shadowy echoes of my past, listening to the likes of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and others. But I do love a band that uses a deep thumping base beat! Now it’s my chance to listen to The Driftwood Sign for the first time (unbelievably) and I have to say they are increasingly floating my ever ‘graying’ boat and seem to have mastered the art of actually making my speakers bleed!!

Although their home town is Malmö in Sweden, they’re making some waves across the channel and we’re getting a chance to hear the guys at work. The first song ‘Leech’ has an almost tribal feel to the opening drum lick, and then a pounding bass guitar riff accompanied with the lead guitar kick in. Anders vocals are very clear and he has a true mastery of English, which is good for us! Or me at least!! But I’m sure they would still sound just as great in their mother tongue too. When I heard the song ‘Open Fields ’, I was racking my brain and trying to think of just what this song reminded me of. Then I had a break-through! Beethoven!?! The opening riff sounds like something perhaps Ludwig Van Beethoven might have produced, had he been born 20 years ago! It seems that rock and classical music possibly aren’t really that far disconnected.

Last on the E.P. is the re-mixed and mastered song ’Disorder ‘. It’s a heavy bass laden melodic track with a possible hint of Alter Bridge? Good lyrics and one wicked mid-way lead guitar riff. Danny on the drums, must have had the workout of his life while laying down the drum track!

Overall, a pretty fair E.P. It would be nice to see the guys tour in the U.K. sometime, and catch them playing live.

Release date for the new self-titled five track E.P. is March 23rd, 2015
