Thomas Chr Hansen, Gaia Epicus Interview 12/11/11

Thomas Chr Hansen introduces us to his creation, Gaia Epicus before they set off on tour around the UK next week along with Komatoze.

For the newer fans or for people who have never heard of you before, can you please give us a basic introduction to Gaia Epicus?

The band started almost 20 years ago but has changed music style, band name and members several times since that. The music we play today and the band name Gaia Epicus has been with us since 2011.

Why the name Gaia Epicus and what does it stand for?

When it was time to find a new band name I wanted to find something that no one else had and something that didn’t sound like any other band name. The name consist of one Latin word and one Greek word. Put together it means something like a New World Epoch. That name was unique and fitted our music very well.

How did the band first get together?

Well… As mentioned before the band has gone through many changes and today it’s actually just me who is a member of the band. I use session musicians until I have found a new line-up. But back in the day it all started one new years eve between 91-92, and it has been going on since then.

What was the inspiration behind the band?

Party time, Rock music and someone saying let’s start a band. hehe
But after about one year I knew that this was my calling in life and thing started to get more and more ambitious from there on.

Who are your musical influences?

Megadeth and, Metallica are the two bands that have had the most impact on my playing style. When it comes to the music I make today it would be Megadeth, Stratovarius, Helloween, Gamma Ray and many more.

How would you describe your band in 2011?  What has changed since you first started out as Gaia Epicus in 2001?

Since I don’t have a line-up today it’s hard to answer this question, but I see a busy future for Gaia Epicus after the release of the new album. Many things has changed since 2001, members and musicianship would be in the top of that list.

Any particular memorable story you would like to share?

Flying to Minneapolis in the US to play at a festival is a great memory, and even though we flew to US and back in only one short weekend we got memories for a life time.

What do you like the least and most about today’s music scene?

I like that Rock and Metal is growing bigger again and that people is getting tired of listening to crap. What I don’t like is too much to mention here.

Are you looking forward to your up and coming UK tour?

Yes we are all very exited! Three years since last time is way too long.

What are the plans for the rest of this year and 2012 ?

We take a break from playing after the UK tour, but I will use much time in the promotion of the new album. We are working on shows for 2012 and hopefully we’ll do a new UK tour also. There will be an new album too in 2012.

Are there any messages that you would like to pass on to the readers?

Come see us play at one of our shows and check out all our WebPages. Who knows? You just might like what you hear!

Thank you Thomas for taking the time out to fill this in for us.
