Winterfylleth Live – The Liverpool Masque – 12/04/2011 (Gig)

Welcome to Whiplash Promotions presents Winterfylleth.

Having the unenviable task of opening up tonight’s proceedings are Huddersfield based black metalers Sanhedrin.

Fresh from the launch of their debut album Salvation Under Sin (available from their website), they set about playing a dark, symphonic inspired set which was well received by the crowd that was gathering to watch the rest of this dark bill.

If you like Cradle of Filth you will love this band.

Following on we have Severed Heaven.

Hailing from Leeds this feisty female five peace seem intent on global domination.

Throwing a new drummer, Hayley Morgan, in to the mix only adds fire to the belly of the beast that Severed Heaven are rapidly becoming.

With front woman Lauren Pen leaping around the stage like a woman possessed in stark contrast to the controlled playing of lead guitarist Leanne Warren, you have an interesting clash of styles.

One to watch for the future ? I definitely think so.

Next up we have Ethereal.

Formed from the ashes of mid ninety’s black metalers Dark Tower, this bunch of eager dark musicians attack the stage with zest and zeal.

With front man Luke Diesektor stalking the stage like a wolf stalking it’s pray, it is easy to see why they are rapidly becoming regarded as being one of the rising dark stars of the underground black metal scene.

Following on we have Old Corpse Road.

Sounding like a cross between Draconian Times era Paradise Lost and Type O Negative, I was majorly impressed by this Darlington based outfit so much so I bought the limited Echo’s of Tales Once Told e.p and the Meads Of Asphodel e.p. (reviews to follow shortly – they were that good);

Where can I start – great composure, presence, songs, atmosphere is there anything else I can add here?

Superb performance.

Check them out if you get the chance!!

Ending tonight’s show are headliners Winterfylleth.

With tonight’s show being a warm up for their upcoming Roadburn festival appearance, you got the impression that the set tonight would be pretty special.

From the start it was so much better than that, the opening track “The Solitary One Waits For Grace” set the scene for a set of pure unadulterated deathtastic tracks from the Lords of English Black Metal.

With singer/guitarist Chris Naughton on fine form tonight, the Winter Full Moon was shining bright.

Highlight of the set: the awe inspiring “The Ghost of Heritage”

Set List:

The Solitary One Waits For Grace (The Wayfarer Pt1)
Awakens He, Bereft of Kinsmen (The Wayfarer Pt2)
The Fields Of Reckoning
The Ghost of Heritage
Mam Tor (The Shivering Mountain)
To Find Solace Where Security Stands (The Wayfarer Pt3)
Defending The Realm
