Danny Beardsley – Interview

DANNY BEARDSLEY steps out alone with his breathtaking debut single and lyric video, This Fool, https://youtu.be/oTgHH1fOpNI , which is taken from his forthcoming solo album, Blood From A Stone, out Friday 20th September. We asked Danny to introduce himself:

What is the line-up, who sings and who plays which instrument?

This is a solo project but I was very fortunate to have Ben and Dave help me out recording the album.

Danny Beardsley – Guitars and Vocals , Ben Edis – Bass, Dave Wright – Drums.

When and how did the project really start gelling and solidifying?
The creation of this album began 4 years ago. I started piecing basic song ideas together and produced some demos. These sat on the shelf for a few years while I concentrated on other musical projects, Emperor Chung and The Parallax Method. I’ve been trying to find my own voice through the years like all musicians do, and with the influence of Big Wreck, Eric Johnson, Queen, Chris Cornell, Joe Bonamassa to name a few I’ve been able to capture what I’ve been trying to express.

I’ve always been a huge fan of organic recordings. Plenty of reverb, big sounding drums, huge mid heavy dirty guitars and acoustic reinforced clean sounds. Ghost tracks allowed Dave to record all the drums at Old Library Studios in Nottingham whilst all guitars, bass and vocals were recorded in my home studio. Totally Radical Studios.

This was this first time I’ve ever been involved with the production side of things, both mixing and mastering. I’ve always focused on my guitar playing and still feel very much like a guitar player trying to sing. I feel like I have something to say now, something has a great deal of meaning.

This album has positioned me right on the edge of my comfort zone but I feel I have grown from the experience, got some things off my chest and produced an album I am proud of. Becoming a father has taught me a lot in life and made me realise how important it is to be true to oneself and embrace our inner ambitions.

Who are your musical influences?

Queen, Big Wreck, Devin Townsend, Eric Johnson, Chris Cornell, Guthrie Govan, Incubus, Simon McBride, Three Wise Monkeys. The list goes on and on…..

Where have you played or toured?

With originals bands and session work I’ve performed up and down the U.K. at festivals including, Download Festival, Bloodstock Festival, U.K. Tech-Metal Fest, YNot Festival, HRH Prog, Hammerfest, HRH Road Trip in Ibiza, Macmillan Fest. Countless music venues and shared stages with the likes of, Von Hertzen Brothers, Cobra and The Lotus, Twelve Foot Ninja, Dorje, Toska, Delain.

In your opinion, how is your music different from all the other bands out  there?

With my music I try to incorporate my love for interesting melodies and technical guitar playing with good songwriting.

I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel, I’m just trying to be the best songwriter I can possibly be and hopefully connect with others on some sort of level.

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how  would you describe it?

An honest painting of my inner thoughts. A journal with melody.

Do you have a tour on the horizon?

In a word no. My plan was never to play live….it’s taken long enough to work up the nerve to release the album nevermind perform it live but never say never and I’ve received such encouragement from friends and family that the wheels are in motion rehearsing the material for potential live shows. So watch this space.
