Set to play two sets at the upcoming Les Fest this weekend, I caught up with Triaxis to talk all things Les Fest.
There are only a couple of days now until Les Fest in Scotland, how excited are you about playing there?
We are really excited about playing Les-Fest. It has been quite a while since we last played Scotland when we toured with Kobra and the Lotus back in November 2010, and we have been promising our Scottish fans that we will come back. So we are honouring that promise.
What is it that you’re most looking forward to?
Playing on a bill with some fantastic bands, some of who we have played with before, and others that are new to us. Also playing to a Scottish audience made up of some familiar faces and hopefully new fans who’ve not had the opportunity to see us before.
This is the second year of Les Fest and the first time playing there, do you know what to expect?
We have no idea. However, we have heard some good things about LesFest, so we are thrilled to be involved.
Why did you want to play Les Fest? What feedback have you heard from last year’s Les Fest?
As previously mentioned, it’s been a long time since we last gigged in Scotland and we know we have quite a few fans here that don’t always get the chance to get to festivals etc further south, so this proved the perfect opportunity to return and see some fans we’ve not seen for a while. The feedback from last year’s Les-Fest was that it was a great festival, so it’ll be good to experience it for ourselves.
Can you explain how your band began?
CJ and Giles began jamming covers with a few people, but a drummer couldn’t be found so Giles hung up the guitar and went back to drumming. Tentative forays into writing original material took place. Then eventually Krissie joined followed by Owen. We released Key to the Kingdom, which was our first full-length album. Then Glyn joined us and thus Triaxis became what it is today.
What’s been one of the biggest highlights so far?
There are a few. We’ve played both Bloodstock and Hammerfest twice, and had an absolute blast doing those festivals. Plus last year we released Rage and Retribution and the response from the fans to the album has been exceptional and very humbling.
For those going to Les Fest who may not have seen you play before, could you describe your music?
Heavy Metal. We can’t really say much more than that. We dislike being pigeon holed as we take so many influences from all over the musical spectrum and all these sub genres can be confusing. If you like it, you like it. It should just be that simple.
If you could choose one Triaxis song to encourage everyone to come and see your set, what would it be?
This is always the hardest question to answer. But Black Trinity has been the main single from the album, although Sand and Silver is also heavy as hell and then we have Lies from the first album, ‘Key to the Kingdom’ so… too many to chose from! Listen to them all.
Do you have anything special planned for your set?
We are very much a ‘what you see is what you get’ band, but we are doing an acoustic set as well as the full electric onslaught, so you will get to see two sides to the band.
How are you traveling up to the festival? Do you have any eventful road trip stories when you’ve traveled to festivals?
We’re taking a leisurely approach to travelling up to Scotland with a stop in the Lakes overnight. We’ve had the usual stuck for 3 hours at Folkstone awaiting the Shuttle, then bombing it down the European roads to get to a festival in Belgium arriving at the last minute with just enough time to load in, get on stage and perform. That was stressful. And then getting the wrong co-ordinates for the hotel and arriving at the hotel with only time for 2 hrs sleep before leaving for the tunnel again. It’s always eventful.
Is there anything you would like to say to those who are going to Les Fest?
See you at the front \m/ and if you see us around the site, come and say hi. We are quite a friendly bunch… honest!
