Kaine – The Waystone

Grab yourself some British Metal on 1 August with the release of Kaines’ second album since the release of their first album ‘Falling Through Freedom’ in 2012. A traditional Heavy Metal four piece band formed in 2009 and from East Anglia who have been working hard performing over 90 shows by supporting acts such as Praying Mantis and Striker.

Let’s get straight to the point – do you like Iron Maiden? If yes, then you’ll lap this album up with delight for the traditional 80’s sound with euphonic and catchy vocals, bass guitar breaks, some kick ass double peddle work by Chris MacKinnon on drums and of course the usual ‘air guitar’ riff moments throughout. The production is slick; it really gripes my gears when the sound of an album isn’t up to scratch, but the hard work of producer ‘Akis K’ has most definitely paid off.

As I am not really a fan of the traditional Heavy Metal (hey I like my stuff really heavy, don’t knock me for that) I am finding it difficult not to be biased here. For me; 80’s traditional metal is a bit boring and samey; but I did find myself head banging along to the fourth track ‘Solidarity’, it was a solid heavy metal track end of! I also fell into the air guitar trap for ‘Wanderer’ which is most definitely a track to hear live. No samey tracks either, not quite sure on the piano intro for the final track ‘The Waystone’, but it ended in true heavy metal style.

I can take most of the album as average for my taste in metal, but if your taste does revolve around traditional heavy metal, you better go get yourself a copy. You will find it difficult not to have this album playing on repeat in your car. I on the other hand, will get myself to a live show, where I think hearing this album live will truly persuade me to keep an interest.
