.@Planetmosh @AnybodyBC reviews “White Devil Armory” by @OverkillBand released via @nuclearblasteu
34 years of very productive existence, 16 studio albums, countless concerts and thrash metal adventures. Yes, they are the thrash metal legends from New Jersey – Overkill. In the middle of the summer of 2014, the band released their 17th full-length album, called “White Devil Armory”.
“White Devil Armory” is a set of 11 cracking groovy thrash metal songs that is almost 51 minutes in length. Quite a standard size full-length album for a metal band; nevertheless, it is yet another very groovy album from Overkill and Bobby’s vocal in it sounds great as ever, loads of guitars solos and great rhythmic section. The album starts with the almost one minute long solemn and a little creepy intro “XDM” and straight after that rushes into an especially groovy “Armorist” with the energy of fight and war, which is superb introduction to the rest of the album. The WDA sound is very typical for Overkill, as this band was never about the innovations but about good old thrash metal. “White Devil Armory” still contains some very memorable tracks as “Pig” and “King of the Rat Bastards”. And one of them already has the official video clip – it is “Armorist” – a very typical show off kind of video, which only proves that these guys are still able to kick ass and will do that on the stage (as always). Furthermore, not so long ago the band promised another official video clip for quite melodic track of the album – “Bitter Pill” – hopefully, this visualization will be different from the previous one.
“White Devil Armory” by Overkill is something that one could call a living proof of quality thrash metal with the iconic sound from the eighties of which one still can’t get bored. The album sounds like the heavy and concrete continuation of “The Electric Age” and it is definitely worth a listen.
Reviewers pick: “Pig”, the 4th track of the album – another groovy, Overkill trademark sound track, which you can shout along “..I’m pig, pig, pig!”.. Great mood guaranteed.
