Despite the last couple of confusing and hard years for Nachtmystium, these experimental black metallers have risen from the ashes with a new and final mind wrecking album, “The World We Left Behind”. As the band have stated themselves, it is their swansong and, is a truly powerful one at that.

Almost an hour long, “The World We Left Behind” is definitely something worth digging and listening to more than couple of times. There is everything here, beginning with typical black metal riffs to melodic tunes, guitar solos and female chorus in the final track “Epitaph For A Dying Star”, a perfect sound to end the album. Remembering “Assassins: Black Meddle Pt. 1” (2008), where the guys composed some tracks with saxophone, it is something you could expect from this band. Slower riffs, catchier tunes, the variety is very dynamic and pleasant to be drawn into, with Blake Judd’s recognizable vocals on the top. It seems that this album is about the existence and life on the road, which turns out to be more or less a fight for everyone and ends at some point of time.

“The World We Left Behind” by Nachtmystium is a dark road from the first to the last track, and an experimental melodic black metal album. Definitely a great experience while listening to it all not trying to mix up the order of the set. It is something that Nachtmystium have left behind themselves and will certainly not be forgotten.

Reviewers pick:  Although I prefer to listen to “The World We Left Behind” the whole not skipping any of the tracks, there are few shiny diamonds: the second and very catchy fiery fight track “Fireheart” and the final one “Epitaph For A Dying Star”. The huge difference between these two shows the great possibilities and ability to compose a very dynamic album.
