Summary:

Entombed AD forge forward paying homage to where they came from.

One of thePress_Cover_01 masters of the Swedish Death Metal scene has managed to split into 2 camps one being led by LG Petrov and another Entombed with Alex Hellid at the helm. This is the 10th release from the band and it will be interesting to see how the fanbase adjusts to this new approach. First out with new material is the LG version. Setting aside the troubles within the band and their fall from grace in the eyes of many a death metal fan they have produced here a safe album which sits somewhere around the “Morning Star” period of the band. The tracklisting has a mix of  slower death n roll feel tracks complimented by  more straight death metal style tracks.

The signature guitar sound has been tamed down and doesn’t have quite the nasty fuzz that we are used to with Entombed. “Kill to Live” the opener sets the the album up with a mid paced death romp with a few quicker passages which is quickly followed by “Bedlam Attack” which ups the ante and even nods to the creepy riffing of the first two albums. “Bait and Bleed”, “Waiting for Death” and “The Underminer” have more prominent speed sections in them and are the tracks that feel most like Entombed. The vocals are closer to the death roars from the early albums and tend to steer away from the more shouted vocals on later albums. The production is standard Entombed fayre – it is bottom end heavy with everything beautifully placed, the vocals could be notched down a touch in fairness. This is a band paying homage to itself incorporating elements of their entire career into one record whilst pushing forward to a new chapter. They still have fuel in the tank but it will take a while for full power to be achieved.
