Stonewire are a Southern Blues Rock band from the South East of England. Formed in 2011, they released a debut EP in 2012 and have toured and played festivals in the UK and Europe, including opening for Michael Schenker’s Temple of Rock on the Swedish leg of his tour.
“When the crow flies” is the debut album from the band, and has been mixed by Voodoo Six bassist Tony Newton. Pete Friesen (Alice Cooper/The Almighty) contributed additional guitar work to nine of the eleven tracks on the album.
The first single to be taken from the album is “Favourite bitch” – check out the lyric video and hear for yourself what the band are all about.
The band’s songs are strong in both Blues and Rock elements – some blues-rock bands are rock with a hint of blues while others are blues with a hint of rock, but Stonewire are strong on both counts. There’s plenty of rock power from the drums bass and guitar, while the excellent vocals give a strong blues feel, as does the use of slide guitar.
For me what makes or breaks an album is the vocals – it doesn’t matter how good the music is if the vocals aren’t right, but happily the vocals on this album are excellent. Sky Hunter has a great voice – husky/gritty, and perfect for the Blues or Blues rock.
This is an excellent Blues-Rock album and is highly recommended.
“When the crow flies” is out now.
