Two years since their last studio album ‘Solarflesh: A Gospel of Radiant Divinity’, Polish death metallers Hate are back with a new album again. Getting closer to number ten, their ninth full-length album ‘Crusade: Zero‘ is another argument showing that Hate is definitely still going their own way.
‘Crusade: Zero’ is framed between the solemn and hypnotizing intro (‘Vox Dei (A Call from Beyond)’) and outro (‘Black Aura Debris ‘), which give an impression of a completely finished and polished album. In between those two, there areten more tracks and a bonus track for lucky ones (‘The Reaping’). Hate definitely like nihilistic names for their songs and of course as a reminder of their own name, to put it in one of tracks as well, like ‘Hate Is the Law’. ‘Hate Is the Law’ is almost six minutes of hateful terror with the signature Hate sound (like most of the tracks in this album) blasting in your face. Well, hate sometimes is the law. Anyway, death, hate (how obvious is that), darkness, doomsday and the apocalypse were always top of the list of Hate topics for lyrics. The band does not seem to change much, music wise as well. Always solemn and dark, going from beautiful intros to ruthless guitar riffs and proper growl vocals. On one hand, there is not much to be changed, on the other – little additions and changes might improve the variety between records and thus quality, especially when one learns to use it wisely. It is great to know that good old Polish Hate did not disappear, although it is about time to try and think outside of their own dark box.
‘Crusade: Zero‘ is easily recognizable as a Hate record. In addition to the great quality, the band members seem to be in the top shape and it basically proves Hate are standing their ground in this apocalyptic age.
‘Crusade: Zero’ will be out out on 30th of January, 2015 via Napalm Records.
