I have to say, i had to pick up the cd cover to make sure I had the right cd in the player, as the press release says “Tracer” fall into the “grunge” category, I totally disagree, they are more classic rock, certainly more like Velvet Revolver, than Nirvana.
A three piece hailing from Australia, Tracer have been around since 2004, having released two indie recordings before finally getting this debut out on Cool Green Recordings.
The first song “Too much” is a great rock track, in the classic sense, full of chunky guitars and a nice rhythm section too, this is now out on Youtube as a single, and there is a link to a free download of the song below.
“Push” is up next, and this heads in a more “Queens of the stone/Stone temple pirates” direction, but its still a great rock song.
By the time the 3nd song has finished “Walk alone” its beginning to become harder to label this band, as “Walk alone” is defo heading into stoner rock territory, a quirky guitar riff, overlaid with a stagnating rhythm guitar.
“louder than this” is like sitting in a blues country bar, watching an old timer pluck away at his battered guitar, or is it ? There is very much a blues flavor going on here, the vocals of Michael Brown stand out here, really stand out, you get the feelings he’s just showing you that he can sing like this all the time, if he wanted to. A stunning track.
Classic rock comes to the fore again on the next track ”Devils Ride”, yet the guitar part has a grunge feel to it, so were finally getting somewhere lol.
“The bitch” has a nice slab of stoner rock going on, before we head into ‘Voice in the rain’, a sort of early Bad Company love song, sort off, its getting hard to pigeon hole this band, and that is what is going to set them apart in today’s crowded market.
With 12 songs on this cd, that cover most of the rock/metal/stoner/classic genres, its hard to fault any song, what is going to be hard for the band, will their ability to please everybody, all the time, as we know that can’t happen.
The future fans of “Tracer” will be fans of the band, and not the genre off music that they play, as its very varied, even the press release didn’t know which direction to go.
So open your mind and ears, as this band bridge a lot of rock genres to bring you an album of outstanding musicianship, songwriting, tempered with a contemporary edge.
A very rewarding 8/10.

TRACER
on tour with ROYAL REPUBLIC
Tracer are excited to announce their third European Tour, as the main support for action-rock, Swedish band, Royal Republic.
The band will play a series of warm-up shows before joining Royal Republic for the second half of their “We Are The Royal” Tour, taking on 24 dates through France, UK, Germany, The Netherlands and Sweden.
With venue capacities up to and above 500, the tour is a huge step-up for Tracer in Europe. To tour with such a cool band as Royal Republic, this will be a massive rock ’n roll party every night for the bands and fans alike.
The tour will also coincide with the European release of Tracer’s debut LP “Spaces In Between” on October 3 2011 on Dutch label, Cool Green Recordings. The album has been an absolute mission to make, but the end result is something that truly captures the excitement and balls-to-the-wall sound of Tracer. It will be great to give something back to all of you, our fans.
