Last week the Finnish Sensei’s of ‘Samurai Metal’ released their third and highly anticipated album Metsutan – Songs of the Void, and in honour of that the band unveiled an epic new music video for lead single ‘Strike!’. The video, about “executing a flawless, godlike strike with a sword,” was written and directed by guitarist and vocalist Jouni Valjakka with cinematography by Teemu Jortikka and Niko Finsk.
Metsutan – Songs of the Void is a a complex masterpiece, addictive from the get-go and has received critical acclaim by the metal media and has been cited on numerous occasions as a record poised to snatch top spots on many end of year lists. The band seamlessly fuse traditional Japanese instruments and atmospheres with Scandinavian melodic death making for a captivating listening experience throughout the album’s ten tracks.
On the days leading to the release of the album the band teamed up with the UK’s Metal Hammer magazine to offer a full stream of the album and had been described as “a bombastic rush of balls-out heavy metal showboating, precise aggression, incisive melodies and, erm, several thick wodges of Samurai shtick.”
