Eclectic alt-rockers, The Lotus, release their new single ‘Mars X’ on Friday 5th May. Before then, we had a chat with the guys:
What is the full band line-up, who plays what?
Rox Capriotti (vocals, bass, keyboards), Luca De Falco (guitars, vocals), Kristal Cross (keyboards, programming, backing vocals), Marco Lancs (drums).
How and when did the band form?
The band formed in 2004 in San Benedetto del Tronto, a very small town in the centre of Italy, east coast. We were really young and we started playing some covers such as Muse, Nirvana, Queen and Pink Floyd but we soon realised we wanted to play our own songs.
When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?
We started working hard on the band at the end of 2005, when a very talented bass player joined us. We did a lot of gigs in Italy, playing early versions of songs we later recorded for our first album named ‘Forgotten Silence’. However, The Lotus made the big step on 2008 after the US tour, when Marco and Kristal joined as new drummer and keyboard player.
What are your musical influences?
Our musical tastes are very heterogeneous and that reflects on our music as well. In no particular order, we love Queen, Pink Floyd, Muse, Metallica, System of Down, U2, Dream Theater, Depeche Mode, Led Zeppelin.
Where have you played or toured?
We did play a lot in Italy, in our area, in Rome, Milan but we also toured the US, mostly in California and Texas in 2008 and all over the UK as well in 2011.
If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?
We would describe it: ‘Imagine a feeling or a dream, or just a scene and fill it up with all the emotions you have: it’s the Great Feast of Music’. That is our music.
Do you have a tour on the horizon?
We’re already gigging in the Manchester area, but we’re planning to do more shows all over the UK and Italy as well. Our goal is to make a World tour soon though.
