The Weight Of Atlas have just released their new video singe ‘The Art Of Letting Go’ – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WojwiAX8ydo , we had a talk with the band about their history and more….
What is the full band line-up, who plays what?
Aaron Corrigan – Vocals, Gavin Duncan – Vocals/Guitar, Lewis Brodie – Guitar/Vocals, Ryan Dair – Bass, Andrew Cairns – Drums.
How and when did the band form?
The Weight of Atlas officially released our first track in the winter of 2014, before by the same name we found our feet for some years as teenagers, including some present and past members. The Weight of Atlas originated in Dundee, a relatively smaller city and is now spread across the east coast of Scotland.
When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?
Nothing has felt more right musically, than the songs and members we are currently working with. The Weight of Atlas really came together to write and release this new album and it’s exciting.
What are your musical influences?
We’ve all been addicted to music, and our instruments since we were quite young, in High School. A lot of us take influence from bands of that day still, like Underoath and Funeral For a Friend. Other bands we’re really into include Pvris, Dayseeker and The Devil Wears Prada.
Where did the name of band come from?
In Greek mythology, Atlas was a Titan condemned to hold up the sky for eternity after the Titanomachy. I like to think of ‘The Weight of Atlas’ as imagery of how sometimes life can be so difficult, it feels like you are carrying the entire world. Our songs and lyrics, are written about our stories thoughts and feelings while we deal this our own issues.
Where have you played or toured? Please name all countries / regions and recognised bands that you have played with.
We’ve play all across the UK on a bunch of tours, head to toe and have been lucky enough to play with such bands as Our Last Night, Funeral For a Friend and Dream on Dreamer. 2017 we plan on getting back out there, UK/EU shows likely in summer.
If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?
Harsh, euphoric, catchy, emotional and angry. Kinda like when you’re so angry you start crying.
