Dutch psychedelic-blues band DeWolff released their latest studio album in May last year and now they’re following it up with a new live album – Live & Outta sight II. As the name suggests, it’s their second live album, with the original “Live & Outta sight” having been released in 2015.
This new album was recorded in several Dutch venues – Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht, Luxor Live in Arnhem, Paard van Troje in Den Haag, and EM2 in Groningen in December 2018 and January 2019. As you’d expect, the live shows featured several songs from the latest studio album (Thrust) – six of them in fact, making up more than half the songs on this live album. You always expect some material from a new album on tour, but it’s generally 2-4 songs, so the fact that they felt comfortable doing so many is an indication of how well the album went down with the fans.
I really enjoyed “Thrust” when I reviewed it and this live album is another great album. The selection of songs is great and their 70s influenced sound with plenty of Hammond organ really works well in a live environment. Personally I’d have preferred them to skip the drum solo as they’re never that interesting on a live album and lose a lot of the pace, but that’s my only criticism of the album.
It’s a great live album that fans of the band are sure to like. If you haven’t listened to DeWolff before then give this album a listen – it’s definitely worth checking out.
“Live & Outta sight II” will be released on 14th June 2019
