Australian rock crew MOFOiSDEAD (www.facebook.com/mofoisdead ) are creating a stir with their contagious and politically charged new single, The Gospel of Engadine, out now. You can watch the video for the track, here – https://youtu.be/Gw6kWOfo7hc . We had a chat with the guys to find out more about the band:
What is the full band line-up, who sings and who plays which instrument?
Paul Galagher – vocals & guitar
Luke Pammenton – drums
Scotty Saunders – bass
How and when did the band form?
Originally formed on the Gold Coast in 2007, now Brisbane based.
When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?
There are different levels to that, but 2015 with our first official ‘tour’ was when it started to really gel. 2019 is when things really started to feel solid with constant writing and recording.
Who are your musical influences?
That’s a long and eclectic list that includes QOTSA, Faith No More, OURS (Jimmy Gnecco), Maria Taylor, Guns N’ Roses, Azure Ray, Better Than Ezra, Spacehog, Mastodon, HIM, RemyZero, Led Zeppelin, early Muse, Ben Harper, Soundgarden, The Tea Party, Iron Maiden, Metallica and many others.
Where did the name of the band come from?
My brain. It just popped into my head one day.
How far back does your history with each other (the band members) extend?
I met Luke in 2009 when he was playing in a friend’s band, I stole him for a project that needed a drummer and eventually brought him into MOFO because it made perfect sense. Luke and I met Scotty in 2013. We played together on various projects and eventually Scotty joined MOFO in 2018 … because it made perfect sense.
Are you friends from school or any family relations?
Yeah, nah. We met through our local family of musicians.
Where have you played or toured? Please name all countries / regions and recognised bands that you have played with.
Although individually we’ve played USA/UK and various other countries with various other bands and legends, MOFOiSDEAD don’t have a lot of touring runs or high profile supports on the board. We’ve played the east coast of Australia: Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Lismore, Sydney, Wollongong, Canberra, Melbourne. We were scheduled to play a mini festival with NZ rock royalty Shihad this year, but Rona cancelled that.
In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?
I was hoping you could tell me. We write without borders, we don’t stick to any formula for any particular reason, we just write and play what we think sounds cool. We certainly don’t try to fit into any sort of genre or scene. We just make the kind of music that we want to listen to.
If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?
Having all of one’s erogenous zones stimulated at the same time.
Where can we find your social media sites?
