Like a gang of wastrel musicians who’ve walked straight out of late sixties North Laines and into modern Brighton, the band explore their roots deep in rock music history and culture with an authentic background that comes from trading in retro looks from their Brighton ultra-hip clothing emporium ‘Mammoth Vintage’. Putting a contemporary twist on the classic 60s & 70s sound, Creeping Jean are a Brighton five piece offering up huge indie-rock tunes to get you up and dancing and have you reaching for the sunglasses as you strut out the door.
“Sassy Got Shakes” tells of a tale of being mesmerised by some serious moves, frontman Olly Tooze recalls: “This song is the tale of someone exhilarating that caught our eye at a festival… they were just completely owning the vibe.
She was demanding the whole dance floor in a drenched mosh pit so ‘sassy got shakes’ came to mind. Even in the rain she set the tone and created a hell of an atmosphere that just lifted everyone! ‘She’s Saturday night, disco fever! She’s Saturday night, Karate receiver!’ Battling anyone in the way. Was a legendary performance.”

Filmed in a boho chic boutique hotel in Brighton and directed by Will Hutchinson the video takes inspiration from Paperback Writer by The Beatles and demonstrates the band’s cheeky, charismatic style.
“Sassy…” is the new single from the forthcoming new Creeping Jean record “Business Is Dead” out August 2nd on Mature Charlton via Townsend Records.
Working away over a hot vintage garment rail, Creeping Jean know all about the vintage business. Their knowledge and hustle, which funded both their first album and this new record speaks to their commitment and dedication, both to the 60’s and 70’s and to making Creeping Jean work.
Is business dead for frontman Olly Tooze or is it all business? “It’s a hustle making things work on the high-street or in the music business these days, we’ve faced all sorts of obstacles, battled landlords, but we’ll jump those fences and make it happen.”Oliver Tooze, with the butterfly haircut of pin-up Farah Fawcett in the 70’s, shakes his mane and focuses “We just want to get out there and play our music, we’re so glad this new record is finally coming out and we’re ready to hit the stage and play the new songs.” He continues “we’re looking forward to playing some headline shows and festivals too – we’re on a roll!” |

“Business Is Dead” was recorded in Eastbourne at Echo Zoo and produced and engineered by Dan Crook. Bassist Kirk Steaggles states “This album has more of a uniform vibe all the way through, this is more of our signature sound.” he continues “We were concentrated there, mainly ’cause there was f*ck all else to do and it’s a cosy studio with great gear”. Olly: “We love the 60’s and 70’s era but we use modern technology when we record, it’s not all analogue equipment. There’s more bottom end on “Business Is Dead” than a vintage recording could get, lots of binaural effects in the mix, so it’s sometimes a bit 80s feeling. In terms of production, we try to take the best bits from the 60s-2010s (in the way of recording techniques and song writing) and we reframe that for the modern recording world.” The band’s critically acclaimed debut album “When’s The Blowout?” 2022, was financed from the sale of five thousand pairs of Converse via their Brighton-based Mammoth Vintage shop and at carboot sales. Again, for “Business is Dead” Olly found himself hustling to Arundel flea market at 4.30am to raise the funds.
