Summary:

Maatkare rise from the ashes with 'May The Gods Bear Witness', their second single of meteoric metal par excellence!

As if debut single ‘War Before Peace’ wasn’t enough to impress highly, Maatkare come back raging with their follow up single ‘May The Gods Bear Witness’.

It took me a few spins to get my head around the tumultuous hate spewed out from the all female line up, channeling the essence of ancient Egypt through their musical expression. It’s just over four minutes of some of the most devillishly devastating death metal I’ve heard for quite some time, courtesy of an unrelenting drum battery of Richter scale worrying proprtions that pounds and pummels around a lung shredding lead vocal, hammering home the historical themes with 100% total conviction. Guitar riffs are locked and loaded for fretboard ferocity, briefly pausing midway for swathes of symphonic metal nuances, all pinned down by boisterous bass guitar ballistics! If this isn’t too much to absorb, wait until their debut studio album is released later in 2024!

They describe themselves as “Pharoahcious UK/Netherlands death metal and the band name comes from one of Pharoah Hatsheput’s many titles”, and “Sirens of sound, women of history, Maatkare has arrived”.
