Summary:

It's time to lose your minds as Hedra get ahead of the pack with their six track EP The Pecking Order.

It’s time to bang your head as Hedra unleash their The Pecking Order EP, not just pecking but ripping your head off! They are a Norwich based heavy metal band, formed in 2014 by guitarist Kamil Korsak and vocalist Jim Marten to make an alternative style of heavy metal music, with an unadulterated goal to carry it to the stages of the World, with loudness and a genuine live feel to the music.

These six songs were a pleasure to review, due to their hang em high attitude. The EP opens with ‘Jackdaw’, opening up the gates of Hell for five gnarly minutes of industrial tinged pumelling, especially from an unrelenting drum battery. Claustrophobic riffs make for a set in stone pit opener and a 100% total conviction lead vocal.

‘Stolen’, The only thing stolen here is your hearing, as this Godzilla stomped piledriver roars with aplomb on off kilter drum patterns, bleak soundscapes and rare touches of melody to add deft touches to the morass.

I was getting a lot of Chaos AD era Sepultura in ‘Suchi’, which is no bad thing from the facemelting guitar work. Vocally it seems like it’s searching for something, elevating the choruses to stratospheric height levels.

‘Avis Mogi’ has an eerie intro of a vocal dirge, laid back heavy psychedelia and an almost regal vibe. Vocals intensify as the song gets more visceral and quicksand cloying.

‘Storm Clouds’ has heavy, heraldic nuances that weave around laid back vocals until all Hell breaks loose behind this full on headbanger.

These six tracks leave us too soon as they close with the very aptly title of ‘Head Held High’. It’s a bonafide skullcrusher as this schizophrenic pit opener sees Jim pour out his heart out for every last drop of emotion, pounding with wrecking ball intensity.
