2025 is here, with the doors being kicked down by Slovenian skullcrushers SRD,unleashing their third studio album Vragvmesiton. It doesn’t seem like six years since I saw them lay waste to the New Blood Stage at Bloodstock Open Air Festival. Coming onstage to a load of dry ice while lecterns and candles were moved and lit. The silence was deafening and it was one of the more extreme bands I’ve ever seen.
So roll on 2025 as four of the six tracks tracks on their latest album are about nine minutes long, a daunting challenge but a very rewarding one as album opener ‘Kacji’ is totally unrelenting! It writhes and churns for an unholy assault to the senses for the blackest and bleakest black metal I’ve not heard of for sometime. It’s almost symphonic in parts but still crushes due to an armageddon inducing drum salvo!
A quaint, acoustic intro for ‘Mora’ is the calm before the storm for this unholy slammer. A seismic drum cavalcade could put the recording levels in the red as it hacks and slashes with malicious intent around a lung busting vocal tirade.
The earworm main intro to ‘Vragvmesiton’ bites down hard as discordant passages add a caustic rant to a snare drum piece before heading off into inhuman guitar work as guttural vocal adds yet more venom for a full on romper stomper outro.
‘Orji’ is all band delivered vocals that gives off an into battle vibe, taking no prisoners throughout eight hateful minutes of vitriol, going up the gears for this skin slasher.
Time to tighten up those drum skins as ‘Mrtvaski Ples’ hurtles along for another pit opener to lay waste to any moshpit that could try and contain the crowd as this Godzilla stomped marauder is nothing short of perfection.
Final track ‘Kastiga’ finishes off this demented album in style as it spews up innovative guitar passages that are almost impossible to pigeonhole. At times it seems as if it’s begging for some sort of forgiveness, shimmering midway on molten hot guitar lines to open up the gates of Hell for one last battery!
