At some point during the recording of this album the band must have took a step back and thought wow, this is something special. ‘Built to Struggle’ is the second album by Lionheart, the title itself gives an indication of what to expect, and those who are aware of debut album “The Will to Survive” will know the hard hitting aggressive tones that set the base of each track.
One can argue that the band is taking the genre of hardcore back to its roots, but genres of music these days are so wide to have sole definitions. Lionheart have written one hell of a follow up album, whether you define them as metalcore or hardcore, you will find yourself head banging along and giving a good old fist hammering in the air!
Cranking rhythmic sections and heavy chugging define the album from the start to finish, tracks such as “Never Break” and “From Nothing” are straight up hardcore breakdowns that during a live show fuel the crowds to pit and release their anger as the band release theirs on stage. “Can’t Hold Us Down” and “Concrete” are two tracks that really stand out on the album, crushing guitar riffs and ruthless vocals set these songs above the rest.
Passion channels through each word of vocalist Rob Watson, there is no denying the hard hitting truths that the songs depict, swarmed by sheer aggression this band is not for the faint hearted, be prepared to get hurt if you pit at one of their shows. No mercy will be shown.
