4th dimension were formed in Italy in 2005 and started to write their own material in 2008, releasing their first song in 2009 on a compilation album. They finished writing the songs for their debut album around the end of 2010 and recorded it in 2011, and it got an Italian release that year. Now with a distribution deal in the UK, the album is more widely available.
The bands music is Symphonic power metal, which is a genre which puts them up against some stiff competition from bands including Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica and many more. That competition doesn’t seem to have fazed 4th Dimension though as they’ve produced a great album with “The white path to rebirth”.
The songs are generally slower than many power metal bands, but this means more chance to let the melodies shine and gives the album more depth and variety The guitar work is also allowed to shine – “Winters gone” has some particularly nice guitar work that simply wouldn’t work in a fast song. Don’t worry though, there is still good fast power metal on the album – “Sworn to the flame” in particular.
Despite opening with a flute introduction, “Goldeneyes” still has plenty of power but still feels like a folk metal song rather than a symphonic power metal song.
“Sworn to the flame” is probably the most typical Symphonic power metal song on the album with plenty of pace and power.
This is an excellent album and I’d certainly recommend it to any fans of the Symphonic power metal genre.
